Antonia Martín-Hidalgo

Dra. Antonia Martin-Hidalgo was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1958. She received a degree in pharmacy from Complutense University and the Ph.D. degree (summa cum laude and Extraordinary Prize of Ph.D. thesis) from Alcalá de Henares University, Madrid, Spain, in 1984 and 1989, respectively. She obtained a Predoctoral Fellowship from F.I.S (1984-1990) and a Postdoctoral Fellowship from Foreign General Plan, Ministry of Education and Science (1990-1991) at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, Lund University, Sweden. She worked as a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology, University of Central Florida, USA (1998-1999). She served as an Associate Professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, Alcalá de Henares University (1989-1990). Presently, she works as an Adjunct Researcher, Ramón y Cajal Hospital, Madrid (since 1990). She is a Member of Spanish Atherosclerosis Society, Spanish Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Society, National Society of Research Workers in Hospitals (Founding Member and President), Association of Women Researchers and Technologists, American Association for the Advance of the Science. She is a member of the Ethical Committee for Animal Experimentation and Investigation Commission of the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid. She has received several fellowships and 13 grants from public and private agencies to support the research. She has published around 74 articles in national and international scientific journals, has dictated several conferences, and presented more than 110 national and international congress communications. She has directed Doctoral Theses, End-of-Degree projects and practical training for Laboratory Technician students. She has organized some courses for postgraduate students about metabolism of the lipids and lipases during pregnancy and diabetes. She is specialized in lipid metabolism and lipases in pregnancy, lactation, diabetes, obesity and knockout mice models of diseases. Her present lines of investigation are the study of the metabolism and role of the lipids and cholesterol in gametogenesis and fertility, with special interest in scavenger receptors class B and hormone-sensitive lipase in the gonads of HSL KO mice and obesity models in humans and mice
