Bio
Over the past 10 years, he has received multiple departmental, faculty and university teaching awards highlighting his accomplishments as an engineering professor; Dr. Straatman most recently received the Edward G. Pleva Award, Western’s highest award for excellence in University Teaching, in March 2007. Dr. Straatman supervises a staff of graduate researchers and works mainly in two research areas. The first focuses on the enhancement of convective heat and mass transfer using porous metals, and the second focuses on the phenomena of energy transport in the Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube.
