Annakaisa Von Lerber

Annakaisa von Lerber received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), Espoo, Finland, in 2004, and the Ph.D. degree in remote sensing from Aalto University, Espoo, in 2018. From 2005 to 2012, she was a Research Associate with the Remote Sensing Group, Department of Radio Science and Engineering, Aalto University, where she focused mainly on modeling the radar scattering characteristics of multilayered snow pack on the ground and of melting hydrometeors utilizing different implementations of volume integral equation methods. Since 2013, she has been with the Earth Observation Unit, Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), Helsinki, Finland, where she has continued the modeling work with respect to weather radar observations. As a Group Head, she is managing national and international research projects. She was the Visiting Scientist with the Institute of Geophysics and Meteorology, University of Cologne, Germany, in 2019. She is acting as the Head of the Radar Science Group, Space Research and Observation Technologies Unit, FMI. The research of the group is concentrated on radar-based nowcasting methods for flood forecasting and traffic weather, and both ground-based and satellite-borne meteorological applications. Her research concentrated on the modeling representation of Arctic snowfall with respect to satellite observations. Her research interests include microphysics and remote sensing observations of winter precipitation.
