Bio
Anna M. Wobus moved from mutagenicity research to stem cell research in 1978. She established the first pluripotent mouse embryonic stem (ES) cell lines in Germany and studied the regulation of in vitro differentiation of ES cells into functional cardiac, skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, neuronal, hepatic and pancreatic cells. She demonstrated that ES cells in vitro recapitulate processes of embryonic development. A.M. Wobus established in vitro differentiation models for the analysis of embryotoxicity of chemical and physical factors and originated the development of routine procedures for in vitro embryotoxicity tests. She initiated and coordinated the first DFG Priority Program on embryonic and adult stem cells research. Since 1992 Anna M. Wobus is head of the “In Vitro Differentiation” group at the IPK Gatersleben.
