Bio
Associate Professor Angie Bone is a senior public health physician, originally from the United Kingdom, who moved to Australia in March 2018. After five years as Victoria's Deputy Chief Health Officer for environmental matters, she is now extending her academic work, with a particular emphasis on bridging between policy, practice and research. Her main interest is in understanding and using the levers we have to achieve optimal and equitable human health, without harming, and indeed restoring, the natural systems on which our health depends, i.e. the principles of planetary health.
Angie's training and experience at local, national and international level provides her with a broad skill set which she can apply to a range of public health problems, with the overarching aim of protecting and improving health and reducing health inequalities. She is a natural integrator and has worked in several high and low income countries. This means she has an extensive professional and multidisciplinary network that can be drawn upon for tackling public health problems that are often deep-seated and complex, sharing with and learning from others.
Angie holds an Associate Professor of Practice in Planetary Health with Monash Sustainable Development Institute, Monash University and an honorary associate clinical professorship at the University of Exeter medical school in the UK. She has specialist medical registration as public health physician in Australia and the UK and has a Masters in Public Health in Developing Countries. She has co-authored over 40 peer-review articles and book chapters, and presented at numerous fora internationally.
