Bio
Trained in media and communication, but drawing much from science and technology studies, cultural sociology, and political science, Wu investigates the connections between media technologies, knowledge production, and politics. Her past research has focused on the following areas: (1) cultures and practices of data analytics, (2) media use and media (infra)structures, and (3) information technology, public culture, and post-reform China. She's working on a book that examines how public culture takes shape when systems thinking, especially systems cybernetics, informs its conception and governance.
Wu holds a PhD in Media, Technology and Society from Northwestern University. She received her Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and her B.A. in Journalism and Communication with a Minor in Applied Computer Science from Tsinghua University.
