We are working to solve three key problems in the field of cell division: 1) How does the interaction between motile and microtubule produce the necessary push and pull force for chromosome movement? 2) How do motile particles perceive the change of attachment and turn it into checkpoint signal 3) What are the sources of chromosome segregation errors in human mitosis and meiosis? The methods of McCainsh Laboratory include living cell microscopy, computational image analysis, mathematical modeling and in vitro reconstruction. Our work on chromosome segregation was supported by Wellcome Fellow Award, wolfson Research Excellence Award of Royal Society, BBSRC and Leverhulme Trust, and we won the Hooker Medal in 2018.
