Andreas Schmitt received the Diploma degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in geodesy and geoinformatics from the University of Karlsruhe (TH), Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2008 and the Ph.D. degree (Dr.-Ing.) from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe, in 2011 for his dissertation entitled “Change detection from multitemporal and multipolarized radar acquisitions.” Since then, he has been working with the German Remote Sensing Data Center, Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, as a Research Scientist further developing the radar data preparation of the TerraSAR-X ground segment. His focus lies on the combination of multisource SAR data in the multi-SAR framework that he has developed during the recent years. He is particularly interested in SAR polarimetry, time series processing, and automated image interpretation. The novel algorithms resulting from his research already found application in diverse projects such as water resource monitoring, forest calamity detection, river ice mapping, and characterization of urban settlements.
