个人简介
André F. Moreira is an Invited Adjunct Professor at Instituto Politécnico da Guarda (IPG, since October of 2021) and Invited Assistant Professor in the University of Beira Interior (UBI, since November 2020). Moreover, he is also researcher at the Center of Potential and Innovation in Natural Resources of the Research Unit for Inland Development in the Instituto Politécnico da Guarda (CPIRN/UDI-IPG) and at the Centro de Investigação em Ciências da Saúde (CICS-UBI), and in an data-update of August 2021 he was considered a World's TOP 2% Scientist (DOI: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.3). He is Member of the Technical-Scientific Unit of Health Technologies in the School of Health (IPG) and member of the CICS-UBI scientific council.
He obtained his BSc (score: 15 out of 20; 2012) and MSc (score: 17 out of 20; 2014) degrees in Biomedical Sciences from UBI. In 2014, he was awarded with a Santander Totta/UBI scholarship (10 months, approx. 7 500 €) followed by a PhD fellowship from FCT in October of 2015 (48 months, approx. 43 000 €). In December of 2020 he completed the Ph.D. in Biochemisty at UBI with the highest grade (Excellent), with a work focused on the development of gold-based nanomaterials and microneedle structures for the chemo-photothermal combinatorial therapy of cancer. During the PhD, he was also a member of the PhD Student Committee and participated in Python and Data Science, NMR in biological systems, and Scientific Writing courses.
Since then, he is coordinating the work of 4 PhD students and 2 MSc students (supervisor or co-supervisor) exploring the application of novel biomaterials for tissues regeneration and the development of gold-based nanomaterials for biomedical applications, mainly in the combinatorial therapy of cancer. So far, André F. Moreira published 44 articles (9 in Top10 and 27 in Q1 journals, 9 as corresponding author, collaborated with 30+ researchers), with more than 2000 citations (h-index= 23), 3 book chapters, and is one of the inventors in 1 international patent.
Co-supervised 10 MSc theses, supervised 12 BSc projects and he is currently co-supervising 4 PhD and 2 MSc students. Moreover, he was the member of the jury in 4 MSc theses and main examiner of 3 MSc theses and 7 BSc projects. Member of the organizing and scientific committees of 6 (2 of them international) and 2 conferences, respectively. Evaluated 1 research project for ANI (Portugal). Ad hoc reviewer for 18 international peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Carbohydrate Polymers, European Journal of Pharmacology, Materials Today Communications, Colloids and Surfaces B, and International Journal of Pharmaceutics). Joined the Reviewer Board of Nanomaterials (ISSN ISSN 2079-4991; IF=5.076), where his also Guest Editing a Special Issue. Received 2 best poster awards (1 as author and 1 as coauthor) and won the SCIENT Entrepreneurship Academy and Business Competition (Cyprus, 2017). Helped to secure >700,000 euros (FCT) as member of funded projects. Enrolled in the lecture of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biomaterials, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Bioprocesses, and Tissue Engineering subjects to BSc/MSc degrees at UBI and IPG. Works in the area(s) of Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Medical Biotechnology, Biomaterials, and Nanotechnology. Specifically, his research has been focused on the application of macroscale drug delivery systems (e.g. microneedles) and gold-core silica shell nanoparticles (AuMSS) in cancer therapy, as multifunctional agents capable of combining the drug delivery and photothermal therapy with their intrinsic imaging potential.
