个人简介
I, Ana Zippel was born as Ana Petrak in Zagreb, Croatia on the 10th of January 1985. My interest for biology became clear already in high school and after my excellent success in my A levels I enrolled the University of Zagreb, Biology Department in 2003. In 2008/2009 I received a one-semester-scholarship at the Uppsala University, Sweden, with focus on insects and animal phisiology. In 2009 I acquired the degree of Master of Education (with an excellent success). Afterwards I worked as a biology educator and biology teacher until my moving to Germany in 2013. In 2015 I gave birth to my first child and enrolled my second masters studium at the Tübingen University, Germany. I parallely worked as pedagogical and scientific staff of the Botanical Garden of Tübingen. In 2018 I gave birth to my second child and in 2020 I aquired the degree of Master of Science (with excellent success). In December 2020 I started working at the LMU Munich as a scientific associate (wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) and started my PhD studies.
My focus lays with immature insects of group Neuropteriformia, with a special interest in morphology and ontogenic patterns of xylobiont beetle larvae (wood-processing and wood-inhabiting beetle larvae). I am interested in how certain morphological patterns of these beetles changed throughout the past and whether the shifts caused differences in morphological diversity through time. In addition, I am interested in the involvement of these beetles, both extant and fossil, in the carbon cycling process. I already worked with the inclusions within Miocene, Eocene and Cretaceous Amber. The results can be seen in multiple articles that I co-authored published over the course of the last year and a half.
During my latest studies I gained knowledge in the evolutionary biology, morphology and ecology, as well as practical knowledge of working within various laboratories. There I learned how to rear insects in a controlled environment (different species of Stenus), how to prepare histological sections of insect larvae for light and transmission electron microscopy, how to prepare samples for scanning electron microscopy and how to use the scanning electron microscope itself. At the moment I mostly work with amber under a digital microscope and with extant specimens with macrophotography equipment. I also use various drawing programs (Inkscape and Photoshop), as well as various analyses programs during the publications´ preparations.
