Bio
Patrícia Cardoso is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S) of the University of Porto. Patrícia is responsible for FCT-funded project (MAGICIAM, POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031859) development of a novel immunomodulatory therapeutic strategy against colorectal cancer at the Tumour Microenvironment Interactions group. Patrícias academic path was successfully accomplished in one of the 100 top European universities, first as a Biology student at the Faculty of Sciences and then as a PhD student at the Faculty of Engineering, both from the University of Porto. During her PhD studies at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, she dissected the crosstalk between macrophages and cancer cells, found novel targets to impair macrophage-mediated cancer cell invasion and developed an innovative therapeutic strategy to immunomodulate the tumour microenvironment. Patrícia actively collaborated with several renowned INTERNATIONAL RESEARCHERS during this work, namely Prof. Alberto Mantovani (Istituto Clinico Humanitas, Italy), Prof. Marc Mareel (Ghent University, Belgium) and Prof. Tobias Pukröp (University Hospital Regensburg, Germany), collaborations that led to successful publications that are still maintained at this time. Patrícia PhD dissertation resulted in a CUM LAUDE distinction, 3 original research articles as first author in Q1 journals and in the obtaining of an FCT-funded project (PTDC/SAU-ONC/112511/2009, 200K). This scientific outputs led to the establishment of a new research group at i3S. Alongside her research activities, Patrícia has actively participated on writing of 2 FCT-FUNDED PROJECTS (PTDC/SAU-ONC/112511/2009 - 250K and PTDC/BTM-SAL/31859/2017 - 200K) and 1 NATIONAL CONSORTIUM (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016390 2.5M). In the last years, Patrícia has been responsible for a new research line in the group focused on the impact of molecules present at the tumour microenvironment, such as CCL18, on disease progression. In this scope, she is currently supervising an FCT-funded PhD student and has also supervised an MSc student, who finished her work with a 19/20 classification. Additionally, Patrícia was the FIRST AUTHOR of a review article on this subject, which was recently published in a Q1 journal in the Immunology field (Cytokine and Growth Factor Rev, 2021). An original research article as LAST AUTHOR is now under preparation, concerning the proteomic analysis of patient-derived colorectal cancer matrices. Presently, Patrícia is also leading a research line focused on the role of the extracellular matrix on cancer progression. In this scope, she supervised an MSc student who successfully completed her degree with a 19/20 final classification. Moreover, she recently published an article as LAST AUTHOR in a Q1 journal in the area of Oncology (Cancers, 2022). Throughout her career, Patrícia has supervised 1 PhD and 2 MSc students and actively mentored 3 PhD, 5 MSc and 2 undergraduate students. She was the main arguer in 1 MSc jury committee. Patrícia is constantly involved in actions to obtain funding, namely through writing proposals for national and international calls and has interfaced relevant group international collaborations. She has participated in several outreach activities, such as science dissemination. She is an EACR Ambassador and a member of the Portuguese Association for Cancer Res. Overall, Patrícias research resulted in 12 PEER-REVIEWED ARTICLES: 4 as FIRST AUTHOR, 1 as CORRESPONDING AUTHOR and 1 as LAST AUTHOR. She also authored 4 CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS and 1 BOOK CHAPTER and participated in recruiting group funding (>0.5M). She has an H-INDEX of 8, CUMULATIVE IMPACT FACTOR of 83,08 and 688 CITATIONS (Scopus). Notably, one recent manuscript she second authored reached over 418 citations (Front Immunol, 2018). She collaborated with more than 60 AUTHORS and completed over 50 oral/poster scientific communications as 1st author and 4 as LAST AUTHOR.
