个人简介
I am a Mexican scientist who obtained her Ph.D. with honors at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. My research interests are understanding the origin, evolution, and species composition of the Mexican and the Neotropical flora, using ferns as my model system. Ferns are the lineage of terrestrial plants with more living species on Earth after the flowering plants, and Mexico has a huge species richness, and few specialists.
For the last five years, my research has been focused on the taxonomy, diversity, and evolution of Elaphoglossum, one of the biggest and most taxonomically challenging fern genera, with ca. 600 species around the world tropics and more than 70 in Mexico. I am interested in better understanding its phylogenetic relationships, taxonomic limits, species distribution, and the mechanisms that have favored its diversity, using traditional approaches –such as comparative morphology, herbarium studies, and monographic work; and molecular tools ¬–such as analysis of chloroplast DNA sequences.
