个人简介
Ana Carina Manjua is a Marie Curie postdoc fellow from Eindhoven University of Technology (March 2023-present), where she is developing novel heart-on-chip technologies.
From 2021 to February 2023 she worked at the portuguese company Bioceramed - Cerâmicos para aplicações médicas, where she was responsible for FDA Regulatory Requirements and Clinical Research.
Ana finished her PhD in Bioengineering - Cell Therapies and Regenerative Medicine from Instituto Superior Técnico Lisboa in December 2020.
She is graduated and master in biomedical engineering. After having finished her academic training in 2012, she has been doing tutoring sessions (Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) to high school and college students. Ana Carina Manjua was granted a Master Fellowship, funded by FCT-MEC, on July 2013 (REQUIMTE/CQFB, FCT-UNL, coordinated by Dr. Carla Portugal). She is motivated by her interest for scientific research related to the development of science and technology. Her first research experience regarded Health Management and Active Ageing (Polytechnic School of Setubal, Prof. Glória Antunes, 2009). On her master dissertation (DCM/Cenimat-I3N, FCT-UNL, Prof. Isabel Ferreira e Prof. João Borges, 2012), within the areas of Biomaterials, Biotechnology and Nanotechnology, Ana Manjua worked with Implantable and Biodegradable Electronic Biodevices using electrospun polymeric membranes to supply low power consumption biomedical devices. Led by her interest in these areas, she was selected for a Master Fellowship project dedicated to the production of hydrogel membranes with magneto-sensitive structures for biomedical applications and to improve the efficiency of membrane based processes.
On January 2015, Ana started the program MIT Portugal in Bioengineering Systems (Advanced Studies), where she has been complementing her academic training with courses such as BioProcesses Engineering, Computational Biosciences, Drug Development, Tissue Engineering, Neuroscience, among others. During this period, she has also been given a new perspective regarding innovation and entrepreneurship.
Ana Carina was selected for a second Research Fellowship under the D-Factory European Project, funded by IBET, on April 2015, (LAQV, REQUIMTE, FCT-UNL, coordinated by Prof. João Crespo and Dr. Carla Portugal). This project is related to the design and preparation of functional membranes for recovery of bioactive compounds produced in microalgae cultures.
With a solid materials and biomedical engineering background, Ana Manjua is mainly interested in nanotechnology and biomedical applications related to the study of new smart materials and in the development of biodevices regarding the newest achievements on green technologies, thus destined to improve health quality. On top of her current research interests are the design and characterization of magnetic responsive membranes, stem cell culture and development of celular functional assays, as well as the design and fabrication of microfluidic platforms using 3D printing and soft lithography technologies. protein immobilization processes, biocatalytic processes applied to biosensors technology and molecular recognition processes.
Ana Manjua is also interested in scientific divulgation. She is author of two publications in high-impact factor journals and presented her work in several international conferences.
Above all, Ana aims to work on projects conjugating multiple areas, such as nanotechnology and biotechnology, innovative technologies and signals processing.
Ana Manjua is a dedicated, strong-minded and responsible professional that has demonstrated an excellent capacity to work and to easily adapt to different contexts. She hopes for the opportunity to continue her research work through innovative projects, with potential for IP (Intellectual Property) development and integration in the industry. Ana aspires for a promising academic career and to become a researcher of excellence with strong collaborations with business partners.
