Bio
Amy E. Smith is an Associate Professor in the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research examines how workplace interactions impact behavior in public sector organizations. Her current research focuses on workplace incivility, gender and diversity in leadership in public sector organizations, career paths in public service, and issues of work-life balance. Dr. Smith also conducts research on teaching and mentoring in graduate education. Her work has appeared in journals such as the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, the International Public Management Journal, the American Review of Public Administration, and the Review of Public Personnel Administration. Dr. Smith serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Public Administration Review, and Public Performance & Management Review. She has been elected as the Division Program Chair for the Public & Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management, and is an Academic Fellow in the Local Government Workplace Initiative at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Dr. Smith received the 2013 Best Article Award from the American Review of Public Administration, the 2014 Graduate Teaching Award from the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools, and a 2018 Best Reviewer Award from the Public & Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management. She holds a PhD in Public Administration and Policy from the University at Albany.
