Bio
Dr. Amar Matloob holds a Ph.D from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad-Pakistan in the area of Agronomy (Weed Science). After receiving his Ph.D in 2014, he joined Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture in 2015. He was topper of Agronomy Department, University of Agriculture (UAF) for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. Session 2003-07. He won merit scholarship from UAF during B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. and M.Sc. (Hons.) Agronomy. He is a recipient of HEC Indigenous Ph.D Fellowship, and Australian Endeavour Award. He was part of UAF student delegation to Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. He is also reviewer of referred international journals published under the umbrella of Elsevier, Taylor and Francis. He took a postdoctoral position in Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation at University of Queensland, Australia where he worked on germination ecology of different weed populations, and glyphosate induced hormesis.
As a weed scientist, Dr. Matloob has worked on a project on "Integrated weed management in direct seeded rice". Under the umbrella of this project; a series of experimental work was undertaken and lot of useful data was generated and published on this aspect considering the local climate, hydrology, rice cultivars and weed flora. He also developed integrated weed management packages for successful DSR cultivation in Pakistan. His current research priorities are studying weed dynamics in different crop rotations and tillage systems, manipulation of allelopathic crop residues for the management of noxious weeds, microbial transformation during residue decomposition, and development of integrated weed management systems for different field crops. He is also interested in studying the impact of various biotic and abiotic stresses in crops of economic significance in the context of changing climatic optima, and looking for strategies that might alleviate such impacts on productivity of agronomic crops.
Recent research activities include studies in to critical weed-crop competition in chickpea, and weed management trials in lentil and chickpea.
