Alsharif Abuadbba

Dr Alsharif (Sharif) Abuadbba has a PhD in computer security from RMIT University, Australia, 2017. He won the RMIT prestigious VC award for Research Excellence in Technology 2018. He also won the Eureka innovation award 2018 for EyeCura Pty Ltd's cybersecurity startup, inspired by his PhD work. EyeCura has three online products on IOS and Google Play used by +10K users. Dr Abuadbba joined the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation CSIRO’s Data61 Distributed System Security group in early 2019 as a Research Scientist and Cybersecurity Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) fellow. In 2021, he was promoted to Senior Research Scientist and now became the Team Leader of Distributed Systems Security. Dr Abuadbba was one of a handful of CSIRO staff awarded a CSIRO Julius Career Award and the only among two recipients from the entire CSIRO’s Data61 Business Unit in the 2022 round. He also received the Data61 high-performance award 2022. Dr Abuadbba has previously worked with California-based technology company AgilePQ Inc as a senior R&D engineer and contributed to a number of US IP patents in cybersecurity. He also has 55+ publications and submissions in high-quality venues (A full List of publications is here Google Scholar). Dr Abuadbba has recently helped to define Data61 Cyber Security CRC projects, such as Deception as a Service, Smart Shield and TAPE, which received funding in excess of $2.5M. His Smartshield project won the prestigious iAwards NSW Australia for technology platforms in July 2022 and will compete nationally in Oct 2022. He successfully attracted +$0.5M in scholarship funding and currently supervises a few PhD students from top Australian Universities such as the Univerity of Queensland, Monash, UoA, and UNSW. His publications appear in many top conferences and journals such as IEEE S&P’23, NDSS’23, ACSAC’22, IEEE TDSC’22, ESORICS’22, ACM ASIACCS’22/20, IEEE ICDCS’22, IEEE TIFS’22. His specialist interests include AI security, AI for cyber defence, data privacy and security, cryptography and watermarking.
