Bio
I got Master of Science degree in Biotechnology from University of Karachi, Karachi, Pakistan, and obtained my Ph.D. in biological science (Molecular/Biochemistry) from the Sindh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMs), Karachi, Pakistan, in 2015. The title of doctoral research-work was “Analysis of Genetic Markers Associated with Kidney Transplant Outcome”. My focus was to identify non-invasive biomarkers that could be used to diagnose/predict renal graft rejection episodes. In my doctorate work, urinary levels of human chemokines, cytokines and growth factors (CXCL9, CXCL10, CCL2, CCL5, VEGF-A, TGF-β1) were investigated in biopsy-proven renal allograft rejection and non-rejection. In addition, certain gene polymorphisms of chemokine receptors of CCR2 and CCR5 (CCR2V64I and CCR5-59029G>A and CCR5Δ32) were investigated for association with graft-rejection. Recently, CYP3A5 gene polymorphisms and their impact on dosage and trough concentration of tacrolimus among kidney transplant patients were studied. To date, five research articles as first and second author have been published in peer-reviewed international journals.
My current research focuses on a panel of non-invasive biomarkers expression levels in TCMR-rejection during early phase (within a month) of renal transplantation. I continue to maintain my keen interest in human genetics involving immunology, pharmacological, metabolic and genetic defects.
