Bio
Ali Etemad (Senior Member, IEEE) is currently an Associate Professor, and Mitchell Professor of AI for Human Sensing & Understanding with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Ingenuity Labs Research Institute, Queen's University, Kingston, ON, Canada. He leads the Ambient Intelligence and Interactive Machines (Aiim) Lab, where his main research interests include machine learning and deep learning focused on human-centered applications with wearables, smart devices, and smart environments. Dr. Etemad is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence, and a PC Member/Reviewer of many notable conferences and journals in the field. He has been the General Chair of the AAAI Workshop on Representation Learning for Responsible Human-Centric AI in 2023, the General Chair of the AAAI Workshop on Human-Centric Self-Supervised Learning in 2022, Publicity Co-Chair of European Workshop on Visual Information Processing in 2022, and Industry Relations Chair for Canadian Conference on AI in 2019. Dr. Etemad's lab and research program have been funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Ontario Centers of Excellence, Canadian Foundation for Innovation, Mitacs, and other organizations and the private sector.
