个人简介
Dr. Bavencoffe obtained his License, Master and PhD degrees from the Université des Sciences et Technologies Lille 1 (France). During his PhD studies under the supervision of Profs. Natalia Prevarskaya and Roman Skryma in the Laboratory of Cellular Physiology (INSERM U1003, Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille 1), he received extensive training in patch-clamp techniques and calcium imaging aimed to unravel the intracellular signaling pathways regulating ion channels.
Developing a strong interest in the role of ion channels and their modulatory roles in the generation and maintenance of pain, Dr. Bavencoffe came for his first postdoc to Prof. Michael Zhu’s lab at the Department of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology at McGovern Medical School. Working in collaboration with Prof. Carmen Dessauer, he described the role of scaffolding A-kinase anchoring proteins in the facilitation of the effects of cAMP and PKA on the sensitization of the nociception / capsaicin receptor TRPV1. During a second postdoctoral experience with Dr. Hui-Lin Pan in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Research at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Bavencoffe extended his skills in isolating, culturing and recording from dissociated dorsal root ganglia sensory neurons of rats and mice.
Dr. Bavencoffe rejoined the Department of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology at McGovern Medical School to pursue his work on chronic pain. Promoted to Research Assistant Professor, he is working on defining intracellular signaling pathways that induce and maintain the pain-related spontaneous activity in nociceptors that drives neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury or peripheral nerve injury. This work has enabled him to become proficient with contusive spinal cord injury surgical procedures in mice and rats, rat paw incision model, state-of-the-art reflexive and operant behavioral testing methods, and sophisticated functional electrophysiological recording and analysis methods, as well as extending his experience with cell signaling research.
To expand the scope of his inquiries into the pain-related nociceptor hyperexcitable state and its signaling mechanisms, Dr. Bavencoffe always look forward to initiate collaborations to investigate nociceptor hyperexcitability induced in other pain models such as lately after chemotherapy with MD Anderson Cancer Center.
