Bio
Alexander P. Vasilkov received the M.S. degree in aerospace engineering and the Ph.D. degree in physics and mathematics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow, Russia, in 1971 and 1975, respectively.
His research interests are in the areas of radiative transfer of solar radiation in the atmosphere-ocean system and development of algorithms for retrieving seawater bio-optical parameters from satellite measurements of spectral reflectance. In the 1980s, he was first to develop a polarization technique for airborne lidar sensing of the vertical profile of seawater turbidity. Currently, he is working on the development of the OMI cloud pressure algorithm that is based on Raman scattering in the atmosphere and ocean.
