Bio
Alexander Hoehn (Ph.D.) has been with CU Boulder / BioServe Space Technologies since 1988, leading spaceflight life sciences hardware development ranging from sounding rocket experiments to experiments on Shuttle, Space Station MIR and ISS. While at Technical University Munich, Germany, he managed astronautics research projects for lunar in situ resource utilization experiments for processing volatiles from regolith, as well as spacecraft communication projects. As system integration and test engineer at Ball Aerospace, he was responsible for payload instrument integration and tests on various satellite designs. Past and current bioastronautics / life sciences hardware developments at the University of Colorado ranged from biotechnology, plant growth and fluid research, including refrigeration / temperature-controlled incubators, growth chambers, and beverage dispenser / fluid management systems for microgravity research. As associate director of engineering, he has managed the R&D team of staff engineers, technicians and numerous undergraduate and graduate students, has had university teaching responsibilities, and was responsible for safety, quality and payload verification.
