个人简介
Born in Seville (Spain), he obtained a degree in Biology at the Universidad de Sevilla (2012), period in which was mentored by the Prof. Dr. Josep Casadesús (2009-2012) in the “Genetics” department. In 2017, he obtained the PhD in Molecular Biosciences from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). His doctoral thesis (2012-2017) was carried out in the research group "Ecology and Evolution of Antibiotic Resistance" headed by Dr. José Luis Martínez, at the National Center for Biotechnology in Madrid. His work was mainly focused on determining the physiological effects prompted by the acquisition of antibiotic resistance through the overexpression of multi-drug efflux systems in P. aeruginosa, highlighting their effects over the quorum sensing (QS) and virulence factor production. In 2015, he carried out a 4-month stay in the group headed by Prof. Dr. Miguel Cámara from the “Center for Biomolecular Sciences” of the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom), where he studied the regulation of RND efflux systems by different QS signal molecules in P. aeruginosa. He worked as postdoctoral researcher with Dr. José Luis Martínez up to august of 2018, when he carried out a 3-month stay in the “Group of Antibiotic Resistance in Pathogenic and Environmental Bacteria (GRABPA)” headed by the Prof. Dr. Jorge Olivares-Pacheco from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV). In October 2019, he come back to work in Chile as postdoctoral researcher of the “Multidisciplinary Initiative for Collaborative Research on Bacterial Resistance (MICROB-R)” associated with the GRABPA lab in Chile. To date, he has worked in different funded research projects focused on the antimicrobial resistance phenomenon under a molecular and One-Health viewpoint, even leading some of them as PI, such as the FONDECYT-3200798 entitled “Molecular and epidemiological characterization of multidrug-resistant clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from Chilean hospitals and analysis of the role of high-risk clones in the prevalence and dispersion of carbapenemases” (Apr-2020/Apr-2023) and the Pfizer Independent Research Grant (Pfizer-67276851) entitled “Characterization of the activity of two new antibiotics against non-carbapenemase producing, carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa (non-CP-CR-PAE) and determination of the molecular mechanisms involved in their resistance” (Jun-2021/Dec-2022). In addition, from 2019 to 2023, Dr. Alcalde-Rico headed the "Pseudomonas Group", one of the main collaborative research groups formed within the MICROB-R network, which is formed by distinguished PIs belonging to several Chilean universities (Universidad del Desarrollo, PUCV, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Andrés Bello and Universidad de Concepción). In this period, the “Pseudomonas Group” has published 5 peer-reviewed articles and it has participated in 9 science conferences. At present, Dr. Alcalde-Rico is postdoctoral researcher of CIBERINFECT (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Enfermedades Infecciosas, Instituto de Salud Carlos III) and he is carrying out his work in the research group of "Microbial Resistance and Complex Infections" from the "Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena (HUVM)" and the "Instituto de Biomedicina de Sevilla (IBiS-CSIC)", focused on the genomic characterization of hospital-acquired MultiDrug-Resistant (MDR) bacteria and their phylogenomic relationship to themselves and other related bacteria.
