My work as PhD student was focus to study the molecular mechanism of the transcription factor KLF4 as oncogene in pediatric Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, as well as the epigenetic mechanism underlying the regulation of KLF4. I provided the first demonstration that KLF4 may function as an oncogene in pediatric Burkitt Lymphoma (BL). On the other hand, I provided evidence that overexpression of KLF4 is common in pediatric BL, and high KLF4 expression is a novel prognostic marker in pediatric BL. In order to accomplish this project I used chromatin immunoprecipitation, qPCR, flow cytometry, site-directed mutagenesis, and Luciferase Assay System to predict Transcription Start Sites in the promotor region of KLF4.
During my postdoctoral position in Cleveland, US, working with Dr. Saba Valadkhan, in the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology in Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, We identified a lncRNA that seems to play a crucial role in the aggressive phenotype of the most deadly breast cancer subtype. My research focused on a project related to breast cancer, using mouse models to understand the role of a long non-coding RNA in breast tumor behavior.
