Bio
My research interests has been focused in the structure-function relationship of RNA polymerases such NS5B
(HCV RNA dependent RNA polymerase). I’ve used several molecular biology techniques in order to determine
structural factors driving RNA-polymerase activity of NS5B in the context of homomeric interactions. I’ve used
a range of biochemistry, molecular biology and computational tools (protein docking, molecular dynamics,
etc…) to determine residues in the NS5B surface implied in protein-protein contacts driving conformational
changes needed for RNA polymerase activity.
Nowadays my research interest is focused in lysyl oxidases, cooper dependent enzymes with intracellular and
extracellular activities that catalyze the oxidation of lysine residues in collagen and elastin fibers, regulating the
structural integrity of many tissues. More specifically, my interest is in lysyl oxidase-catalyzed crosslinks on
collagen IV networks present in kidney glomeruli.
