个人简介
Dr. Alberto Ardèvol-Abreu is an associate professor ('Profesor Titular de Universidad') at the Department of Communication Science at the University of La Laguna (Spain). He holds a degree in Media Studies and Journalism, and he is also doctor in Communication Science by the Universidad de La Laguna. Alberto Ardèvol obtained his doctoral degree in Communication Science for his dissertation about news media framing of humanitarian crises in December 2013, after having completed predoc research stays at the Universities of Texas at Austin (with Professor Emeritus Maxwell McCombs) and Autónoma de Nuevo León (México). For this work he was awarded the International Doctor’s Degree Extraordinary Prize (2014). During the last ten academic years, he has held research and teaching positions at the universities of Vienna (Department of Communication) and La Laguna (Departments of Communication and Cognitive Psychology). In recognition for his research achievements, Alberto has obtained the distinguished Spanish I3 certification of excellence in international research and the Spanish accreditation of scientific productivity by the CNEAI (one six-year research period, 'sexenio de investigación', 2013-2019).
Dr. Ardèvol’s research interests focus on new media and political communication. He is particularly engaged in the enquiry about positive and negative effects of internet-based media use on civic and democratic life. Closely connected to research in political communication—from both theoretical and empirical perspectives—, Dr. Ardèvol-Abreu has examined the effects of media portrayal of immigration, minorities, and impoverished countries. Alberto Ardèvol-Abreu's publications on these topics also include the visual coverage of immigration, ethical standards and recommendations for news reporting on war and humanitarian crises, and communication strategies to promote the integration of minorities.
Alberto is also engaged in theory building and theory testing in Communication (especially in connection with framing and agenda-setting theories). He has participated in research projects on the third level of the agenda-setting theory (together with Professor McCombs at the University of Texas), and the typology of news media frames. He has received major national and international awards for his research. Prominent among them are the American Political Science Association Best Information Technology & Politics Article Award, the Amsterdam School of Communication Research Denis McQuail Award to the best article advancing communication theory, the Robert M. Worcester Prize at the World Association for Public Opinion Research to the year’s outstanding paper, and the Latina 2013-2017 Drago Award to the most cited article in five years published in 'Revista Latina de Comunicación.'
