Bio
Prof Akinola Samson Olayinka is a prolific academic, researcher and practicing computational and material physicist. He holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Theoretical & Mathematical Physics and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Engineering Management respectively from the University of Benin Nigeria, a Master of Technology (MTech.) in Physics (Condensed Matter option), Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Physics – Electronics respectively from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Benson Idahosa University, Benin City Nigeria among a plethora of other professional certifications. Dr Olayinka who joined the service of Edo State University Uzairue (formerly Edo University Iyamho) in 2017 as a Senior Lecturer and Head, Department of Physics, is presently an Associate Professor of Computational Physics in the Department of Physics. Prior to his engagement by Edo State University Uzairue, Dr Olayinka had spent over 12 years in various administrative, teaching and research positions at the Benson Idahosa University. Dr. Olayinka has served in various Senate Committees of the University and presently, he is the Chair, Committee on Quality Assurance and Learning Management Systems (LMS) respectively. He is also the Pioneer Director of the Directorate of Quality Assurance, which he heads to date. He is the founder of the center for computational science network (c2snet.org), a non-Governmental network to promote computational research in Africa. Dr Olayinka’s research focus is the application of modern theoretical concepts of materials, quantum theory of solids, and powerful computational methods to proffering solutions to a plethora of natural and industrial problems. He uses pragmatic theoretical and computational tools to address socioeconomic needs including the development of novel materials for solar technologies, energy storage, thermoelectric, and biomaterials. Presently, he is working on a series of research projects involving the application of computational intelligence to the design of intelligent systems for metallurgical products as well as the application of machine learning and internet of Things (IoT) to agricultural mechanization. Dr. Olayinka has both local and international research experiences which include Guest Researcher, Forschungszetrum Julich, Germany and Visiting Scientist, International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. Dr Olaynka is an alumnus of the IMBIZO, a network of computational neuroscientists. He has also won a number of grants and He is a reviewer to several local and international journals. Dr Olayinka’s dogma about life is “no one can stop you, unless you stop yourself”.
