Project Management and Grants
a. I managed, as Principal (Co)-Investigator, a five hundred and thirty thousand US dollars ($ 530,000) grant for research projects at the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) from 2012 to 2020.
b. I evaluate the feasibility to implement clinical trials and administration of investigational products in Ghana.
i. Carry out stakeholder engagement with collaborating institutions, budget and project planning, application for regulatory approvals of study, personnel recruitment, setting up of quality management systems for the project, designing of data collection tools, data analysis, writing and review of written report for dissemination of the following projects
• Infrastructure Pilot (IP) for identification, referral, and management of infants with possible serious infections in the community.
• Determine the intestinal microbiome and the prevalence of potentially probiotic organisms in predominantly rural communities of Central Ghana, Africa.
ii. Set up and manage the logistics needed, training of personnel, competency assessment, establish quality management systems, prepare for audit and assessments with respect to the clinical laboratory components of
• COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials with Sanofi Adventis
• Imara study, a Phase 2b Study to Evaluate the Safety and Efficacy of IMR-687 in Subjects with Sickle Cell Disease
• ADOPT Study sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
• Pilot Implementation of the malaria vaccine (Mosquirex) in Ghana.
• Phase IIb and Phase III trials of the RTS,S malaria vaccine.
• KAE609 phase IIb multicentre, randomized, dose-escalation trial
iii. Develop and review protocols for pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of investigational products, budget, logistics requirement, procurement and planning, stakeholder and collaborating partners engagement and training for regulatory approvals of the following projects
• Bioequivalence study of Tenofovir with a local pharmaceutical company (DANADAMS) in Ghana.
• A double-blind randomized control trial of AX-100Immun (Liquid) and AX-100Immun Plus combination among adults living with in HIV in Ghana.
• Efficacy and safety trial mebendazole against hookworm in Ghana with PATH.
c. I have played management and oversight roles in the successful planning, development, implementation and monitoring of several multi-partner research and program activities at KHRC including test method validation.
i. Evaluating the feasibility and performance of a protein-creatinine dipstick for identifying pre-eclamptic patients and their management in antenatal clinics in the middle belt of Ghana with Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH)
ii. Evaluating CareStart Glucose-6-Phostphate dehydrogenase deficiency Rapid Diagnostic Test Kit, Ghana with Access Bio Inc, New Jersey, USA.
iii. Assessing CareStart HRP2 based Rapid Diagnostic Tests for the diagnosis of malaria in Kintampo, Ghana with Access Bio Inc, New Jersey, USA.
iv. Evaluating a non-invasive device to estimate haemoglobin concentration in Ghana with Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH).
i. Epidemiology and immunology of helminth and Plasmodium species infections in the middle belt of Ghana.
d. I provide professional expertise, consultancy services and advice on laboratory systems strengthening with respect to diagnostic capacity, facilitation, Training and staff capacity building, Quality Assurance, development and review of policy and programme guidelines, etc to the Government of Ghana through the Ghana Health Service and the Professional Body for Medical Laboratory Practice in Ghana, Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS).
i. COVID-19 National Case Management Manual update, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training manuals development.
ii. Set up of COVID-19 Testing facilities (LEDing Medical Laboratory and Kintampo Health Research Centre)
iii. Developing and Improving the skills of medical laboratory assistants in Ghana in malaria diagnosis through Malaria Microscopy Training.
iv. Review of National Guidelines for Laboratory Diagnosis of Malaria in Ghana and Standard Operating Procedures of the National Malaria Control Programme.
