Adrian daSilva-deAbreu

Adrian daSilva-deAbreu, MD, MSc, PhD(c) earned his medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela, where he worked as a research assistant in a laboratory of molecular biology for five years, and received the Luis Razetti Graduation Award (Alpha Omega Alpha equivalent) and multiple Student Merit Awards for his distinguished performance as a leader of multiple medical student scientific organizations, pioneer in the organization of innovative academic projects, scientific productivity, editorial activity, and social volunteering. He was president of the Medical Student Scientific Society-Central University of Venezuela, editor-in-chief of their indexed journal, vice president of the International Federation of Medical Students-Venezuelan Chapter and Directive Board of the Latin-American Federation of Medical Student Scientific Societies. Then, Adrian moved to the United States, where he did a one-year program of Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (PPCR) of Harvard Medical School, where he earned the Clinical Research Scholar Award for high performance. Adrian felt enlightened by this learning experience and decided to extend his studies into a master's program on the same field, which he completed while simultaneously doing his clinical residency and fellowship. As a resident of internal medicine at McGovern Medical School of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Adrian earned the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society membership and The Arnold P. Gold Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award due to his clinical and bedside teaching performance.​ He completed his fellowship of cardiovascular diseases at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, where he also conducted his clinical research for his PhD and became a Senior Lecturer of Medicine (Cardiology) at The University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical (Medical) School. It was during this time that Adrian enrolled and conducted most of the research for his PhD. After completing his fellowship of advanced heart failure & transplant cardiology at Yale University School of Medicine/Yale New Haven Hospital, Adrian became a Senior Associate Consultant at Mayo, where he works most of his time caring for patients before and after receiving heart transplants and ventricular assist devices. His research has focused on outcomes of patients with obesity and ventricular assist devices, and he is also interested in the interactions between obesity, advanced heart failure, and heart transplantation.
