个人简介
My choice to pursue an academic career in water engineering originated from a desire to rectify the distressed state of municipal water supply to many communities in the cities of Akure and Ilorin (Nigeria) where I was resident. In these communities, it was typical to experience erratic potable water supply. As a consequence, many households resorted to shallow wells which were often compromised by sewage seepage from septic tanks resulting in recurring typhoid fever and cholera outbreaks. This situation motivated my MEng research which developed a potable water supply system for an Akure community. The limitations of this project and the desire to better understand and contribute to community development, motivated me to pursue a PhD in Water Engineering (specifically water supply design and operation) at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS). Since graduating with a PhD in 2003, my quest for deepened scholarship has motivated me to pursue further research, teaching, professional service and mentoring.
Since PhD graduation, my primary research interest has revolved around water reuse, water demand analysis and modelling, water conservation and water demand management. My water reuse research is interdisciplinary and has involved understanding perceptions; awareness campaigns; developing guidelines for implementing reuse systems; undertaking economic analyses; water balance exercises; modelling, design and simulation; assessing reuse technologies; implementing pilot plants; developing conceptual tools and software; assessing public health risks; and assessing environmental costs and benefits.
I collaborate (or have collaborated) on various research projects/proposals with colleagues. From many of the above initiatives, I have attracted more than R4.3 million for research, equipment, teaching relief, workshops, and scholarships. Many of these initiatives have also afforded me unique and fulfilling opportunities to mentor post-doctoral, PhD, MSc, MEng and BSc students.
