Abubakr Muhammad is an Associate Professor of electrical engineering and the Founding Director of the Center for Water Informatics and Technology (WIT) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) – Pakistan's premier private research university. In 2005, he received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering, the Georgia Institute of Technology where his doctoral thesis won a Best Dissertation Award. Before joining LUMS, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher first at the University of Pennsylvania and then at McGill University. He has won Fellowships or held visiting professorial positions at other top institutes including the University of Oxford, ICTP, and KAUST. His current interests are at the intersection of environment, technology and society; covering topics related to hydro-informatics, precision agriculture, robotics and impacts of artificial intelligence, and automation on society.
