Computer algorithms are widely employed throughout our economy and society to make decisions that have far-reaching impacts, including their application for education, access to credit, health care as well as access to information. The ubiquity of algorithms in our everyday lives is an important reason to focus on addressing challenges associated with the design and technical aspects of algorithms and preventing bias and homophily from the content. My research interests lie broadly in the area of evaluation of different online information filtering algorithms e.g. recommender algorithms, search algorithms, summarization algorithms etc. on the grounds of diversity, fairness and bias.
