He was appointed as a Lecturer in Bacteriology in 1985 in the Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Tanta University, Tanta, Egypt, and then as an Assistant Professor of Microbiology in the same Department in 1990. He was granted a research grant for nine months to do research in molecular biology at the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Molecular Biology, University of Copenhagen, with Prof. Roger Garrett.
From 1995 to now, he has been appointed full Professor of Microbiology in the Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Tanta University, Tanta, Egypt. In 1997, he was appointed Professor of Microbiology at the Biology Department, Faculty of Science, El-Taif Branch, Omm El-Qura University (now Taif University), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition to teaching, he shared the microbiology courses for the new Microbiology section at Tanta University and the Biotechnology Department at Taif Branch. From 2001–2009, he was a Professor of Microbiology and head of the Bacteriology Unit, Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Tanta University, Egypt. From 2009–2017, he was appointed Professor of Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology, at the Biotechnology Department, Faculty of Science, Taif University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During his career at Taif University, he was awarded the citation and research prizes for three consecutive years. He was also involved in the editorial board of several international journals, reviewing many Ph.D. and M.Sc. theses, projects, and manuscripts for local and international universal journals. He also reviewed some of the work of assistant and full professors sent for promotion-to-promotion committees for higher education at El-Azhar University, and the City for Scientific Research and Technology Applications, New Borg El-Arab, Egypt. He participated in many scientific conferences and scientific research projects. He has been working in the field of microbiology since his postgraduate days (1974). He teaches several microbiology courses and supervises a number of postgraduate students at different departments of his and other universities (more than 50 M.Sc. and 20 Ph.D. theses). He has been involved in joint supervision (Ph.D.) between Egypt and other European and American countries. The researcher's research covers various topics such as biological control of diseases, bacterial plant growth regulators, bacterial remediation of pollutants, biotechnology, enzyme production, plant-soil-microbe interactions, and nanomaterial production by microorganisms, with applications in various fields. In the field of microbiology, he published over 97 manuscripts and three book chapters in native and international journals and publishers, covering numerous topics in microbiology, in some cases with joint authors.
