Bio
Alexei Syrbu (SM'02) was bom in Moldova on December 5, 1950. He received the degree in electronic engineering in 1972 from the Kishinev Polytechnic Institute and the Ph.D. in 1979 from the Institute of Applied Physics, Moldavian Academy of Sciences.
Since 1972, he has been with the Laboratory of Optoelectronics of the Kishinev Polytechnic Institute. In 1976–1977 he conducted research at the A. F. Ioffe Institute, Leningrad. For two months in 1982 and 1990 he was a visiting fellow at the Sheffield University, Great Britain. His research addressed AlGaAs/GaAs and InGaAsP/InP LPE growth and melt-etching selectivity and new processes for high-performance light-emitting device fabrication.
In 1983 Dr. Syrbu was awarded the Soviet Union prize for contribution to light-emitting devices.
