个人简介
Dr. Siddiqui’s recent work has focused on the underlying mechanism(s) of liver disease associated with viral hepatitis B and C. Although different in their genome organizations and life cycle, they share many aspects of liver disease pathogenesis including the progression of infection to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. His current major research focus is on the mitochondrial dynamics. HBV/HCV induced mitochondrial fragmentation and mitophagy. HBV/HCV induced mitophagy is shown to affect innate immunity associated with viral infection. These activities contribute to the mitochondrial liver injury associated with chronic hepatitis B and C and are relevant to liver disease pathogenesis. Aleem's work on HCV secretion and involvement of host lipids continues to characterize the site and mechanism of host lipids associate with nascently assembled virion particles to traffic through Golgi network. N6A methylation modification of RNAs has been revisited with the improved techniques and bioinformatics to establish its role in RNA biology including stability, translatability and altered gene expression.
