Dr. Ana Rodriguez OTD, MS, OTR/L
Dr. Rodriguez graduated with a baccalaureate degree from Florida International University (FIU) in 2003. Upon completion of the program, she passed her national boards and was licensed by the state of Florida as an occupational therapist. She worked in occupational therapy clinical practice in outpatient and inpatient hospital settings, the private sector and as owner of her company, worked as a strength trainer for the geriatric population and offered home health community-based practice.
In her pursuit of clinical advancement, Dr. Rodriguez completed her post professional Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Florida International University in 2007. She continued to serve the community as a clinician in orthopedic outpatient rehabilitation clinical settings, and in August of 2010, began working at FIU as an adjunct faculty member in the Occupational Therapy Department. In January of 2015, Dr. Rodriguez was hired full-time in FIU’s Occupational Therapy Department as a Visiting Clinical Instructor. She assisted in the development and assessment of Conditions Affecting Occupational Performance; OTH (5224).
Dr. Rodriguez continually strives for excellence and maximizes her potential in all components of her professional career. In her continuous pursuit of clinical advancement, in 2017, she graduated from Chatham University with a Doctor of Occupational Therapy Degree. In January of 2018, Dr. Rodriguez was hired as a full-time faculty member in FIU’s Occupational Therapy Department as a Clinical Assistant Professor. Dr. Rodriguez developed and implemented an evidence-based educational intervention “adaptive coping strategy program” for the occupational therapy students as her doctoral project. This work has led to peer-reviewed publications and national presentations. Her approach in teaching is to support the needs of students and create targeted teaching and learning interventions that increase awareness and use of learning and coping strategies among this graduate student population.
Dr. Rodriguez received the Excellence of Teaching Award at the College level in 2020 and the Excellence of Teaching Award at the University level in 2021. Dr. Rodriguez implements innovative approaches in the classroom, develops innovative research, and is always willing to serve the Occupational Therapy Department, The Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences, FIU, and the community. Dr. Rodriguez aims to continue to enhance and broaden her teaching, scholarly and service to pursue distinction throughout her professional career and provide the support necessary to her department, college, university, and community.
