Plasma shaping. Negative triangularity (NT) is improving confinement in L-mode to conventional H-mode level, diminishing turbulence, thus transport, reducing to supressing totally ELMs in H-mode when transiting from PT (positive triangularity) to NT, thus reducing heat load excursions to the divertor and first wall. The suppresion of high power flux bursts with NT makes it a serious option to reduce destructive wall interactions in a DEMO-like fusion reactor.
