Bio
Aaron P. Batista (M'06) received the M.S.E. degree in computer and information sciences, the B.S.E. degree in computer science and engineering, and the B.A. degree in philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1994, and the Ph.D. degree in computation and neural systems from the California Institute of Technology, in 1999.
From 1999 to 2007, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (host institution: Stanford University), then in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Program in Neuroscience at Stanford University. In 2007, he joined the faculty of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. His research uses high-volume neural recordings and microstimulation to study the neural mechanisms of sensory-motor coordination, toward the goal of improving neural prostheses.
Dr. Batista is a recipient of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award in the Biomedical Sciences, and is a member of the Society for Neuroscience.
