Bio
Dr. Lucci currently is a Professor of Surgery with dual appointments in the Departments of Breast Surgical Oncology and Surgical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He completed his residency in General Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota, followed by Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, where he received mentorship from Dr. Armando Giuliano and Dr. Donald Morton.
His current research is focused on mechanisms of micrometastatic spread of cancer cells to the blood (circulating tumor cells, or CTCs, and circulating tumor DNA, or ctDNA, as well as exosomes). He is the Surgical Core Leader of the MD Anderson Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) Clinic.
Dr. Lucci has published over 192 peer-reviewed papers, numerous book chapters, and is frequently invited to lecture both nationally and internationally. He works with students, residents, and fellows on a daily basis, and has received numerous teaching awards.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO), The American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS), The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), The Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), The Society of University Surgeons (SUS), The Western Surgical Association (WSA), and numerous other medical and scientific societies.
