个人简介
Antonio Lax (PI) earned B.S. degrees in Biochemistry from Murcia University (UMU) (Murcia, [Spain]), and the Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the same University in 2009 (Award to The Best Ph.D Thesis). Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital (Murcia, [Spain]), PI joined Pascual-Figal´s group at the UMU. In 2010, he was awarded a Juan de la Cierva Research Fellowship from the Ministry of Science in Spain. Thanks to his first project as PI (FFIS/CM10/011), aiming at identifying the procedures that regulates the adverse remodeling after MI, he was able to set up his laboratory and direct his own line of research "Myocardial Remodeling and Heat Failure". In 2014, he was awarded a Sara Borrell contract and in 2016, he carried out a stay at the Cardiovascular Research Center (New York, USA), in collaboration with R. Hajjar´s research group. He pioneered in the identification of the key elements involved in the overexpression of sST2 after MI. In 2018, he was awarded a Research Contract to Access the Spanish System of Science, Technology and Innovation and returned to IMIB-Arrixaca Institute (Murcia, [Spain]) to continue with his independent research career and projects as PI. In October 2018 he was awarded with his third project (20652/JLI/18) as PI as a Junior Group leader from Seneca Foundation (Spain). In 2019 he obtained a new project as PI (PI19/00519) from ISCIII (Spain) and since 2021 he is a Ramon and Cajal Researcher at the UMU. PI’s research is focused on studying cardiac and pulmonary physiopathology in both in vitro and in vivo models with a research program targeting different signaling pathways in cardiac hypertrophy and HF. Over the past five years, PI has studied the detailed molecular mechanisms related to sST2 transcription and their relationship with disease pathways in vitro and in vivo. Currently, he is investigating the role of microRNAs in the regulation of diverse cardiac functions; and his team identified several candidate microRNAs that are severely deregulated in different cardiovascular diseases. His team also elucidated the function of Galectin-3 in different cardiac cell types that may help in understanding cellular processes and intercellular communication. Recently, he has awarded with a research project from Fundación Mutua Madrileña focused to improve cardiac transplantation. The direction of the Lax Laboratory research is concentrated mainly on the use of target proteins, cyclic nucleotides, microRNAs, and exogenous non-coding RNAs, to test new therapeutic approaches for cardiovascular diseases. He has published >40 original articles in major international journals (Q1/D1) and he is first, senior or corresponding author of 35 of these publications. He has participated in 21 research project, two international projects funded by Novartis and Genentech as well as 20 national projects. He has been PI in 7 projects. He´s reviewer for 7 high impact JCR journals and he´s member of the editorial board of leading international journals such as Inter. Jour. of Molec. Sciences (Guess Editor) and Frontiers in Pharmacology. Moreover, since 2015 he has acted as Scientific Evaluator of the GRIS European program (Czech), in 2021 he started as a Scientific Evaluator in the Spanish National Research Agency and also participates is a COST-ACTION (EU-COST Action CA20121) as researcher. Moreover, he´s Associate Professor-Cardiology (ANECA certified) (Faculty of Medicine, UMU, [Spain]) and he has created a Technology Based Company entitled Biocardio, in the context of the University of Murcia with his novel and patented results. He has obtained the I3 certificate.
