Bio
Alice K. Jacobs, MD is a Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine at Boston Medical Center, having served as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and Interventional Cardiology until 2011. In 2004-05, Dr. Jacobs was president of the American Heart Association (AHA) and she has been a member of numerous committees and task forces within the national, regional and local AHA and president of the AHA Northeast Affiliate in 2002-03. Currently, she is Vice Chair of the AHA Hospital Accreditation Science Committee and a member of the Conflict of Interest Committee and the Research Network Expert Panel.
Dr. Jacobs is the past chair of the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/AHA Task Force on Practice Guidelines and has been a member of several ACC committees. In 2011, she was president of the Association of University Cardiologists and currently is the immediate past-chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine Interventional Cardiology Self-Assessment Test Committee and a member of the New York State Cardiac Advisory Committee and CMS MEDCAC. She has also been a member of several ACC and AHA writing groups for documents on establishing training criteria in interventional cardiology; assessing and maintaining competence in interventional cardiology; incorporating cost and value into guidelines and performance measures; and evaluating the impact of state legislation on registry participation and systems of care implementation.
Dr. Jacobs has led the AHA’s Mission: Lifeline, a community-based, national initiative to develop systems of care for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients and to increase the number of patients with timely access to primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Her major research interest is in coronary revascularization strategies. Dr. Jacobs is the principal investigator of the MASS COMM trial, which evaluated the safety and effectiveness of coronary angioplasty performed in community hospitals without on-site cardiac surgery in Massachusetts. She is also interested in cardiovascular disease in women and the sex-based differences in the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of ischemic heart disease.
