Ana J. López is a tenured professor at the Higher Polytechnic School at the University of A Coruña (UDC). Since 1996 is member of the Laser Industrial Applications Laboratory (LAIL). Within this research group she has worked in the transfer of photonic technologies to industry and to the field of Cultural Heritage, publishing more than 80 papers (50 JCR articles; 26 Q1) in high impact journals and proceedings regarding LIBS spectroscopy and laser ablation for cleaning and functionalization of different material surfaces; as well as optical non-destructive techniques. In the last 10 years, laser cleaning of igneous rocks, mainly granites, has experienced significant growth that must be largely attributed to the results obtained through 3 consecutive projects supported by the Spanish Government that resulted the 70% of the scientific papers in the Scopus database indexed with the keywords laser, granite and cleaning. Her research is currently focused on His research is currently focused on the ablation processing of 3d surfaces. She has participated in 31 projects from national and international calls and in 7 contracts (Art. 83) with companies and administrations. She is also coordinator at the UDC of an Erasmus Consortium HERDADE regarding conservation of Cultural Heritage.
She has recognized for 24 years of international-quality research (4 sexenios) and has advised 3 PhD theses defended in the last 10 years
She is fully concerned with gender mainstreaming in education, research and TOK. Within the framework of an Erasmus project + Mates (Maritime Alliance for fostering the European Blue Economy through a Marine Technology Skilling Strategy) she has worked on gender mainstream in the field of shipbuilding and marine technology. She has also publications as author and editor and organizeced workshops on gender issues.
In July 2021, she was elected as General Secretary of the RSEF (Spanish Royal Society of Physics).
From 2012 to 2020 she was the Head of the Bureau for Gender Equality at the University of A Coruña, responsible for policies and strategies for promoting gender balance in both teaching and scientific fields. In this sense, in 2019 she was responsible for managing the funds of the Pacto de Estado contra la Violencia de Género (State Pact against gender violence) in the UDC (100.000€). From 2016 to 2022 she was member of the Executive Committee of AMIT (Association for Women in Science and Technology: http://www.amit-es.org/) and from 2015 to 2021 she was chair of AMIT-GAL, the Galician node of AMIT. Since June 2018 she is Vice-President of the Specialized Group Women in Phyiscs of The Spanish Royal Society of Physics (http://www.gemf-rsef.es/).
