Career Trajectory
Bio
I complete my four years bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Plant Pathology from one of the world’s leading University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in Pakistan, with good grades of 3.66/4. After that, I perused two years master’s degree in Plant Pathology with a specialization in plant bacteriology from the same institution and again in good grades 3.68/4. I successfully defend my master thesis entitled “Identification and evaluation of various products as bacterial carrier substrates for plant delivery systems”. During my master's, I have also worked as a research assistant in a project entitled “Rhizosphere engineering through biostimulation of quorum quenching bacteria for the management of bacterial diseases in vegetables” funded by Grand Challenges Canada in Plant Bacteriology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology University of Agriculture Faisalabad Pakistan. In this project, Rhizo-engineering was done by using biodegradable natural products for enhancing plant beneficial bacterial populations for controlling bacteria like Pectobacterium, Ralstonia, and Xanthomonas. I successfully worked on the Molecular characterization of rhizospheric bacterial populations associated with vegetables in terms of quorum sensing (QS) and quorum quenching (QQ). Different QS and QQ strains were identified and QQ consortia not only effectively reduced the disease impact on vegetables but also enhanced growth parameters. I have also worked as a research student in the project entitled “Metagenomics and whole-genome sequencing for characterizing indigenous chickpea root-associated rhizobia from the Thal region of Pakistan for diversity analysis and bioinoculant development”. My Ph.D. dissertation title is “Prediction and biochemical profiling of citrus canker disease caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri and its integrated management”. In this study, various environmental variables like (max. & min. temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, and wind speed) conducive for the development of citrus canker were measured and a model was developed in the light of these experiments. Besides this, ionic and biochemical status was examined in the citrus leaves after the attack of Xanthomonas. Management of Xanthomonas was done by using different phytoextracts, antibiotics, biological agents, and plant growth regulators both in lab and field conditions. During my Ph.D. I have also worked as a research assistant in the project “Biochemical profiling of citrus and its rhizosphere for management of canker”. I have completed one experiment of my dissertation at DNA Zoo lab School of Agriculture and Environment, The University of Western Australia (UWA) Perth, Australia where diversity analysis of citrus canker bacterium Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri isolated from all the major and dedicated citrus-growing areas of Punjab, Pakistan were performed through Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and bioinformatics analysis. I have also served as a teaching assistant for a period of 1.5 years in the Department of the Plant Pathology University of Agriculture Faisalabad and taught different bacteriology courses. I have also delivered two international oral talks, first was with the topic of “NAHL degrading bacterial consortia from potato rhizosphere as biocontrol agents for controlling soft rot of potato” at the International Agriculture, Environment and Health Congress. Adnan Menderes University Aydın, Turkey and second was with the topic of Biodiversity and efficacy of chickpea rhizobia strains isolated from Thal region of Pakistan at an International academic conference for graduate students Nanjing, China. I am also the author and co-author of various internationally published abstracts and research articles in peer-reviewed impact factor prestigious journals of Plant disease and Journal of Plant Pathology. I have good proven communication skills and currently serving as president of the Young Phytodoctors Forum at the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. My primary motivation throughout my life is to get higher education and utilize my academic and critical skills in the field of molecular and advanced studies. I have expertise in the laboratory as well as field studies. I am good at; isolation, identification, and characterization of bacterial pathogens, pathogenicity assay, quantitative analysis, HPLC, GC/MS, Histopathology, and field trials. Molecular biology techniques like DNA isolation, Cloning, Gel electrophoresis, PCR, Restriction analysis, Diversity Analysis, 16s rDNA based phylogenetic analysis, Biosensor based quorum sensing and quorum quenching assays, Genome sequencing and bioinformatics.
