Research Interests:
1. Research and development of a new underwater robot Aqualog, - a profiler deployed at moored station. This profiler can be used as a “sea lift” (elevator) for season-long deployment. Aqualog is a carrier of various probes such as SBE 52MP CTD, Nortek Aquadopp current meter, AANDERAA oxygen optode sensor, and other environmental sensors, which are broadly used by the oceanographic community. While moving up and down between surface mixed layer and the bottom at pre-defined time intervals, the sensors make measurements and collect vertical profiles of various parameters. By now, two prototype models were built and several pilot experiments were carried out at the Black, Baltic, Japan, Mediterranean, Kara and Caspian Seas shelves in 2005-2012.
2. The application of the underwater robot Aqualog for environmental monitoring of offshore oil and gas explorations, such as oil platforms at the sea shelf. Research on a system including Aqualog to monitor environmental pollution near the oil platforms and the sea terminals.
3. Process oriented studies in the Black Sea and the Japan/East Sea.
