Ana Dinis holds a Phd in Biological Sciences since 2014, from the University of Madeira. Her main research interests focus on large marine vertebrates ecology, namely the investigation of social structure, group dynamics, residency and movement patterns of highly social species, in the Macaronesian region. She has gain extensive experience in cetacean identification, collection and analysis of photo- identification data, land-based and marine visual and acoustic survey techniques, through 15 years of nautical systematic and non-systematic surveys; and 5 years of systematic aerial surveys. Additionally, she has experience in biopsy sampling, using both darts and scrubbing techniques and tagging using radio-telemetry and satellite tags. She has been involved in two national and nine international projects, six of them in the last six years, being co-coordinator in six and invited expert in one. In the last years she co-supervised five master students’ thesis projects, three PhD students and two research fellowships (master level). She has authored or co-authored 24 peer-reviewed publications, two books, 6 oral presentations and >30 conference poster communications. She is a member of the Marine Mammal Expert Group (OMMEG) under ICG-COBAM / BDC, for the OSPAR Commission, since 2021.
