个人简介
Associate professor (W2 Universitätsprofessor) and Sofja Kovalevskaja research group leader at the University of Konstanz.
Born and raised in Naples, Italy, he earned a Bachelor's degree (Dec. 2008) and a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering (Feb. 2011) as the student graduating with the highest weighted average grade of the entire College of Engineering (amongst more than 3,000 students).
He was then awarded one of the three Fulbright Self-Placed Scholarships ($38,000) awarded for all disciplines in Italy during the academic year 2011-2012 to pursue a Professional Science Master’s Degree in Nanoscience and Quantum Physics at Arizona State University, which he completed in July 2012.
He joined the NanoDTC Ph.D. programme (one-year-long Master’s degree followed by three years of Ph.D. research activity) at the University of Cambridge in September 2012, where he was selected as recipient of the only Schiff Foundation Scholarship (£ 56,000) awarded in the same year.
He earned his Ph.D. degree at the University of Cambridge (September 2016) defending a thesis on “unconventional superconducting states at superconducting interfaces” and passing his Ph.D. viva exam without corrections.
Right after completing his Ph.D., he was elected to one of the five Junior Research Fellowships offered by St John’s College in the academic year 2016-2017 for doctoral students and early-career postdoctoral researchers from any discipline (5 fellows selected from more than 700 applicants). As a research fellow, he did research work in the field of superconducting spintronics at the University of Cambridge as an independent investigator (Oct. 2016 - Sept. 2019).
He has been awarded one of the six Sofja Kovalevskaja prizes (1.65 million euros) from the Humboldt Foundation in 2019 to establish and direct and independent research group at the University of Konstanz. Since October 2019, he has therefore moved to Konstanz where he has established his research group focusing on superconducting spintronics with oxides and 2D materials. He got appointed as Associate Professor in August 2020.
He has been awarded several prizes for his research activity in the field of superconducting spintronics including the international IEEE Graduate Study Fellowship Award (2015), the ESAS Prize for Young Researchers (2017), the Brian Pippard Prize from the UK Institute of Physics (2018), and the Sofja Kovalevskaja award from the Humboldt Foundation (2019).
