Bio
During her pre-doctoral stage, she has been involved in detection of bacterial pathogens, developing different PCR-based methods (multiplex PCR and TaqMan PCR) for the detection of fish pathogens (Flavobacterium psychrophilum, Aeromonas salmonicida and Yersinia ruckeri). She also worked in the detection and isolation of Salmonella spp. in food samples, and molecular typing (RAPD) and characterization (virulence and resistance genes) of the isolated strains.
She joined the Animal Health Area of SERIDA in 2006 as post-doctoral researcher, participating in two research projects related with the improvement of the aquaculture. During this time, she continued working with fish pathogens, doing molecular detection by PCR, and characterization of the isolates by PFGE and antimicrobial resistance.
In the last years, she participated in the elaboration and development of three research projects related to the study of tick-borne pathogens in north Spain. Her experience with molecular diagnostic methods contributed to the detection, identification and/or genotyping of Anaplasma spp., piroplasmids, Borrelia burgdorferi, Coxiella burnetii and Llouping ill virus. The research work she carried out over these projects increase the knowledge of the tick species circulating in the region, the pathogens they carried and the prevalence of them.
Nowadays she is interested in the application of new –omics thecniques, mainly in the study of zoonosis transmitted by arthropods from a metagenomic approach. In order to acquire the necessary skills to apply this technology she assisted to some training courses at EMBL in 2013 (Metagenomics: managing, analysing and visualising data course) and at Castilla y León Supercomputing Center in 2015 (Curso práctico de iniciación al uso de la supercomputación aplicado al análisis de datos RNA-seq).
In 2020 she obtained a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics by the Open University of Catalonia, defending a final project entitled: Creación de un pipeline para el análisis de microRNAs a partir de datos sRNA-seq. She made the practicum work at a biotechnology company (Microviable therapeutics), working in the optimization of a pipeline for metagenomics 16S analysis data.
