Bio
Dr. Dahi Taleghani is an associate professor in the Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering at Louisiana State University and an independent consultant. He earned a M.S. in civil engineering from Sharif University of Technology and his Ph.D. in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He has about 10 years combined experience in applied engineering, research and in academia and is a resisted professional engineer in Texas. Dr. Dahi Taleghani is the associate editor of ASME journal of Energy Resources and Technology and active review for technical journal of society of petroleum engineering and various geomechanics journals. Dr. Dahi Taleghani has numerous publications, presentations, research studies, a book chapter, and has filed for four provisional patent applications in the field of drilling and completion. In 2014, he received the Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty from the Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE).
Arash Dahi initially started his academic career on modeling hydraulic fractures in presence of natural fractures and relevant microseismic analysis, however, he has expanded his research interests to new topics. He is currently conducting research on injectivity changes and sand production in injector wells by developing erosion damage models for poro-elastoplastic media. He is also running experimental and numerical research on bit-rock interaction in the framework of continuum damage mechanics for PDC cutters. His interest in damage mechanics and rock failure is initiated by analytical and numerical works on formation and propagation of microannulus fractures as well as cement sheath integrity issues due to underground blowout or hydraulic fracturing treatments. Arash has also studied the effect of fracture diagenesis and features like slickensides and slippage on fracture’s seismic signature and its applications for reservoir characterization. Parallel to this efforts on fundamental research, he has developed different applications of thermoplastic and thermoset shape memory polymers for drilling and completion problems which has resulted in four patent applications for expandable proppants, temperature-trigger loss circulation materials, expandable cement additives and biodegradable refracturing diverter fluids.
