Graduated from Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), Chair of Nuclear Chemical Engineering in 1967. PhD and DSC thesis defended in 1974 and 1984, at the same University. Titular Professor by the Republic of Poland in 1992. He started working at 1983 at the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT) as Head of Department and starting from 1986 as a Scientific. Director (till 2002), than from 2008 till now as Director General of the Institute. The Institute has been nominated by IAEA as a Collaborating Centre for period 2010-2024. In periods 1967=-83 and 2002 - 13 he was employed at WUT as a professor. Meanwhile, a postdoc at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA, 1976-77 and 2003-2005 as a technical officer at the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, Austria. He has a lecture and is an expert lecturer in many countries in the years 1992 - 2007; lecturer at University School for Advanced Studies IUSS, Pavia, Italy at the course "The Master's Degree in Nuclear and Ionizing Radiation Technologies (NIRT)" in the years 2005-2013; lecturer at the postgraduate course at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was appointed as a guest professor at the University of Hefei, and is an honorary professor at the University of Pavlodar, Kazakhstan in 2017. Served as a member of the IAEA DG Standing Advisory Group on Nuclear Applications, Vienna 2012 - 19; Deputy Chairman of State Council on Nuclear Safety and Radiological Protection, c / o Polish Atomic Energy Agency; 2013 - now and is a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences on Energy Studies, since 2012, member of presidium of the Scientific Council of the National Center for Nuclear Research, Swierk, Poland and Chairman of the Scientific Council of Central Laboratory for Radiological protection since 2012. He is a member of the section for international grants co-financing projects at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education since 2008. Member of the Commission counseling about the Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland in the Joint Nuclear Research Institute in Dubna , Russia (2014 - now). In the years 1990 - 2007 he served as a Vice-Chairman and 2007 - 2011 as a Chairman - Scientific Council c / o National Atomic Energy Agency.He was a member of the Social Advisory Team for the Government Plenipotentiary for Polish Nuclear Power (2009 - 13) and represented Poland at the Advisory Committee. Euratom Supply Agency (2009 - 15), Luxembourg; at Nuclear Energy Development and the Fuel Cycle NEA OECD, Paris, France (2011-14) and at Reliable Nuclear Fuel Services Working Group, GNEP (2008-2010). He was involved in the development of "Project supporting the safe nuclear energy" (2010-2015) and a Polish coordinator of the Euratom project "Transnational Access to Large Infrastructure for a Safe Management of ActiNide" (2013 -15). He is a Board Member of the Polish Nuclear Society (President, 1999-2001) and Environmentalist for Nuclear Energy Society (President, 2013 - 2015) and a Board Member and Director of the International Irradiation Association (iiA) (2013 - 2022). Author of over 150 papers and books, 65 international patents. Many of the invented solutions were implemented in industry. Among them new type wastewater equalizer-clarifier constructed at the biggest Polish refinery. Orlen, Płock and the installations for radiation processing ; flue gas treatment in EPS Pomorzany , Kaweczyn and Jeddah; sterilization plant and food irradiation plant. In 1999 he was awarded with the title "Engineer of the year" by prestigious Polish Professional journal "Technical Review" and received Officer Cross of Merite de L'Invention exhibitions and fairs. In 2006 he was nominated for the Award for Research for National Economy Development, (Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Poland). He has been a member of the Polish Engineering Academy since 2003. Supervisor of 16 PhD thesis and over 100 diploma works. A member of the US DOE Experts Panel preparing a report "Accelerators for America's Future", 2009. Expert on the TC projects in Azerbaijan, Moldova, Cuba, ROK, Vietnam, Philippines, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Ukraine, Chile, Brazil, Serbia, Bulgaria. Leading country at IAEA regional RER projects RER1020. In charge of National TC projects; POL8007,8013,8020,8011 Andrzej G. Chmielewski; share as staff member of the IAEA and the Nobel Peace Prize, 2005, "for their efforts to prevent nuclear energy from being used for military purposes and to ensure that nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is used in the safest possible way"; is a recipient of the International Irradiation Association , iiA, " Lifetime Award for Science” 2013 and received IAEA Team Merit Award, 2005.He was awarded with high rank state orders; Golden Cross of Merit, Chevalier and Officer Crosses of Polonia Restituta by President of the Republic of Poland and Commandeur de l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques by Prime Minister of the Republic of France.
