Ana Claudia De Souza

She is a Brazilian Stroke Neurologist, has a Medicine Graduation from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS - 2012), a Neurology residency at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA, 2014-2017), a Fellowship degree in Stroke Neurology at the HCPA (2018), post-graduation degree in Stroke Neurology at the HMV (2018) and a Ph.D. degree in Medical Sciences-Neurology focused on Health Economics at the UFRGS (2021). Her PhD thesis, "Cost-effectiveness of Mechanical Thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke in the Public Health System" helped to incorporate the treatment in the Brazilian Public Healthcare system. She received the award of best thesis by the local University and a honorable mention by the CAPES-Brazil program. Recently, during the World Stroke Congress in Singapore 2022, she received the Angels Award "Spirit of Excellence" due to her recent efforts to improve stroke treatment in the region. She is working in assistance to neurology patients, but mainly in coordinating and managing clinical research projects at Hospital Moinhos de Vento (HMV). A member of the executive committee of the RESILIENT-EXTEND trial and a member of the steering committee of the RESILIENT EXTEND-IV and RESILIENT DIRECT-TNK trials. She is interested in supporting economic evaluations in LATAM countries to incorporate new evidence-based technologies for stroke treatment and leads a funded project by the World Stroke Organization, “Unveiling the cost of acute stroke in LATAM since 2021.” She participates in the LATAM Certification of Stroke Centers and continuously trains local multidisciplinary teams for stroke care improvement, and participates in the South Brazilian Telestroke Program, attending approximately 15 hospitals. She is a reviewer of essential journals in stroke neurology (PlosOne, Cerebrovascular Disease, International Stroke Journal, Stroke Journal, and Frontiers in Neurology). She is the handling editor of the InterSECT section of STROKE journal, a board member of the American Heart Association Journal, and Cerebrovacular Diseases Journal. She was a member of the Future Stroke Leaders program of the World Stroke Organization (20-2022), and now is a member of the Early Career Stroke Professionals Career of the World Stroke Organization. Also, she is a member of the Brazilian Society of Cerebrovascular Diseases, Brazilian Stroke Network, and is a member of the directive committee of the Sociedad Iberoamericana de Enfermedad Cerebrovasculares.
