Bio
Currently I am working as a researcher in the R&D laboratories of Chiesi Group, an international pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Parma (Italy). My role is to design innovative manufacturing processes and products in the therapeutical areas of interest for the company, i.e. respiratory deseases, neonatology and rare diseases.
I use to work with several different pharmaceutical forms such as dry powders for inhalation, solutions or suspensions for pressurized metered dose inhalers or unit dose vials for nebulization. I also deal with a broad variety of manufacturing unit operations from dry powder mixing to capsule/device filling, from micronization of active pharmaceutical ingredients to sterilization of solutions, from dissolution of powders in stirred tanks to lyophilization of unit dose vials. I am also in charge of scaling the laboratory manufacturing processes up to pilot and industrial plants.
For the design of certain products or processes I rely on modeling and simulation tools such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and descrete element modeling (DEM). When multi-phase flows are present in our applicatios, e.g. to study the behaviour of pharmaceutical powders entrained in swirling flows, we also couple these two techniques.
